I really think that I should have a blogging section of my wordpress/ website. I don’t care about people/ readers reading it, but the idea of someone being able to, at a glance, understand what my current projects are is a huge deal. Potential employers, collaborators and people who are interested in my avocational existence being able to have that information available to them is something that could be life changing for me.
Let me break this post up into some sections to help you get through this.
The first section will be about process, the second will be about projects I want to finish/ write about, and the third will be talking about the finances of it.
THE PROCESS
I want to do this through stream of consciousness writing. Clacking away on my computer and scribbling away at the dozens of notebooks (that I have chaotically thrown around my home) has always been something that is incredibly relaxing for me. I want to do it more regularly, and if I keep this up, I can see those scribbles and free writes turning into fully formed ideas. Even in the worst case scenario, if less things end up being finished because of this more regular writing, being able to categorize the drafts/ the things that I naturally write about would be super helpful in finding some sense of order in it all. Even if this is just a constant reminder of me sucking at writing , maybe order slouches from chaos.
One of the first things I want to write about are projects I aspire to do. Allowing those posts to be collected could inform my process of the creation/finishing of those projects.
THE PROJECTS
For example, I currently want to make an album called Lucille (where I essentially make a pop record that is full of satanic puns), Rebrand my band Late Nights (mainly because it’s impossible to look us up right now), and to make a project called Elizabeth J Bean where I get to release really nice and sad love songs about my girlfriend. I would also really love to release a popping solo record. There are so many other things I would like to do on top of that!
But the first step is writing about them.
THE FINANCES
But while I think all of the ideas in the previous section are super cool, they live in a faulty existence without thinking about money coming in or considering bills. I want to do these things, but it comes at the negotiation of my health/ time/ energy and life outside. Time is never given, but traded, and right now I’m bad at trading the time for making things with the time I spend doing other things. This is the real reason why I want to write these posts.
I think that the only way outside of this constant life of doing a lot of creative work for free is to communicate with communities (who you don’t really know) about what you need/ what you can do. I hope I can get out of this through self advocacy and communicating well, but it feels like screaming politely into a void, continually and consistently and listening for an echo. It feels unreal, until maybe it will be the thing that starts my career. I am making these things with the hopes to monetize it as soon as I can with good conscience.
……
Well, that’s gonna be my post. If you have any questions, comments or critiques, please feel free to reach out/ contact me either on this wordpress or directly through my email at Kiernan.kai@gmail.com.
Have a good one y’all.
